Boulle is a term that refers to a type of marquetry of patterned inlays of brass and/or tortoiseshell, occasionally with other metals such as pewter, much used on French furniture from the 17th century. It’s named after the 17th-century French cabinetmaker, André Charles Boulle. In this case, you’ll find intricate brass inlay over wood.
